Diana Dawson serves as Assistant Professor of Instruction at the School of Journalism and Media, University of Texas at Austin, where she has taught since 1996 and directs the Moody Writing Support Program she founded in 2013 to enhance student writing through peer coaching, workshops, and speaker series.
Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Research and Teaching Focus: Specializes in social issues reporting, narrative writing, and news coverage with emphasis on immersive storytelling about gentrification, immigration, mental health systems, and foster care. Developed the innovative course "Communicating the Human Side of Social Issues" that takes students into communities for hands-on reporting.

- Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University
- Livingston Award for Young Journalists finalist (twice)
Program Leadership and Advising: Created the Moody Writing Support Program to provide foundational writing instruction for journalism students. Teaches core courses including Reporting Words and feature writing while mentoring students through immersive social issues reporting projects.
Teams: Directs the Moody Writing Support Program team of peer writing coaches who conduct individual tutoring sessions, host workshops, and organize speaker events to develop student writing skills.
