Dr Bolaji Balogun is a Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, SOAS University of London. He holds qualifications including a PhD, BA, MA, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on race, migration, and decolonial pedagogy, with a specialization in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly Poland. Utilizing ethnographic, archival, and decolonial methodologies, he examines intersections of race, nation-formation, and social justice. His work bridges academia and public discourse through contributions to platforms like Open Democracy and LSE Blogs.
Research Interests: Balogun’s work interrogates racialization processes, colonial legacies, and the dynamics of Europeanness in Eastern Europe. Key themes include marginalized communities’ lived experiences, the global color line, and decolonizing narratives. His research methodologies emphasize historical sociology, qualitative analysis, and critical race theory.
Awards: He has received a Top Cited Article award in AREA and a Most-Read Article award in Global Social Challenges Journal. His book Race and the Colour-Line: the Boundaries of Europeanness in Poland (Routledge, 2024) is a landmark text in rethinking racial hierarchies in Europe.
Professional Activities: Balogun serves on the advisory boards of Sociology, Ethnic & Racial Studies, and The Sociological Review. He has held Leverhulme Trust Fellowships at the University of Sheffield and Kraków University of Economics.
