Dr. Olalekan Balogun is a Research Fellow at the Bayreuth Academy Advanced African Studies, University of Bayreuth, and participates in the University of Cape Town's Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies (CTDPS) through the Andrew W. Mellon funded "Reimagining Tragedy from Africa and the Global South" (ReTAGS) project.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Global Shakespeare (Theatrical & Filmic Adaptation and Appropriation) and Intercultural Performance, Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand
- Master of Arts (Distinction) in Theatre Arts, University of Lagos, Nigeria
- Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, University of Lagos, Nigeria
Dr. Balogun's research centers on Performance Studies and Theatre Arts, with specialized focus on Shakespearean adaptation, postcolonial dramaturgy, and trauma representation in African contexts. His current Bayreuth Academy project "Living With Horror Without End in a Postcolony" analyzes how armed violence, banditry, and terrorism in northern Nigeria manifest through drama and performance within Internally Displaced People's Camps (IDP).
Prior to these appointments, he instructed Postcolonial Dramaturgies, Creative Writing, and Performance Aesthetics at the University of Lagos.
