Prof. Dr. Bodo Laube serves as a Professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt, leading the Laube Lab focused on Neurophysiology and neurosensory systems. His research integrates biochemical, genetic, behavioral, and electrophysiological methodologies to investigate biological sensors in synaptic transmission, neuronal development, and cancer progression.
Research centers on four critical domains: (1) synaptic protein dysfunction in neurological diseases and developmental disorders including intellectual disability and epilepsy; (2) cellular stress responses and ionizing radiation effects on hippocampal neurogenesis and cognitive functions; (3) membrane receptor roles in tumor progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance in brain cancers; (4) rational design of BioSensors using modified neurotransmitter receptors for medical and environmental applications. The lab bridges structural biology with translational therapeutic development.
Prof. Laube mentors seven PhD students—Alexander Bausch, Flandrit Bytyqi, Dario Macarron Palacios, Sebastian Mach, Viktoria Roth, Nina Trautwein, and Jannik Wempe—alongside postdoctoral researchers and technical staff. The collaborative team operates within a framework targeting therapeutic innovations for neurological disorders and malignant brain tumors through interdisciplinary investigation of ion channel pathophysiology.
