Bob Schwartz serves as Dean of the Schools of Arts, Design & Business at Mount Mary University and holds the title of Adjunct Lecturer at Northwestern University’s Segal Design Institute (McCormick School of Engineering). Previously, he was Vice President, Global Design & User Experience at GE Healthcare (2007–2020), where he led global design teams and projects in industrial design, design thinking, and human factors. He has also held leadership roles at P&G, Levolor Kirsch/Newell Rubbermaid, Motorola, and the Red Cross.
Bob earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (Roddy Scholar) and a BFA in Design from the Kansas City Art Institute. His expertise spans design strategy, design education, and medical device innovation, with a focus on inclusive design and diversity initiatives. He has been a strategic advisor for organizations like AdvaMed, testifying before Congress on design policy, and served as Senior Advisor for Design to the People’s Republic of China via a UN appointment.
He is Board Chair Emeritus of the Design Management Institute and a former board member of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. His recognitions include Fast Company’s Top Chief Design Officer (2015), IDSA’s 50 Most Notable Industrial Designers (2015), and the Diversity in Design Award for Lifetime Achievement (2019).
