Dr Bob Jeffery is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Course Leader for the MRes Social Research at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Social Sciences and Arts. His research focuses on work-based harms, unionization challenges in precarious sectors, and policy levers for good work. He holds a BA from Nottingham Trent University, an MA from Goldsmiths College, and a PhD from the University of Salford. His work explores social inequalities through lenses of class, gender, and urban studies, with empirical studies in Salford, Sheffield, and Islington.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on sociology of work, survey methods, and social theory at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research has been funded by the ESRC, Low Pay Commission, and Islington Council, among others. He is an Associate Editor of Contention and Editor of Radical Statistics. Current projects include analyzing sexual harassment in hospitality work and union strategies to address work-based harms.
