Bo Xie is a Professor with joint appointments in the School of Nursing and School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MS in Psychology from Peking University, and a B.Med.Sci. from the West China School of Medicine. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on health informatics interventions to enhance older adults' use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health decision-making, emphasizing e-health literacy and its impact on patient-provider relationships and health outcomes.
Dr. Xie's professional experience includes roles as Inaugural Director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation and Technology Advancements (CHITA) since 2023. She has received prestigious awards such as the Dolores V. Sands Chair in Nursing Research Fellow and the ACM SIGIR Best Short Paper Award (2023). Her work spans grants from NIH, NSF, and other institutions, totaling over $5 million in funding for projects like 'Tailoring Responses to ADRD Caregivers' InfOrmation wants (TRACO) through human-machine collaboration.'
Her research interests include health technology adoption by older adults, caregiver support systems, and pandemic-era health information dissemination. Notable publications address AI-driven solutions for dementia care, trust in public health information during crises, and the digital divide affecting aging populations. Dr. Xie also leads initiatives to design inclusive health technologies and improve health literacy through collaborative learning programs.
