Blake Howe holds the Paula G. Manship Professorship in Musicology at Louisiana State University's School of Music within the College of Music and Dramatic Arts. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses covering eighteenth- and nineteenth-century music, film music, and performance practice, and has co-directed LSU's Collegium Musicum ensemble.
His research spans nineteenth-century German song (particularly Schubert), Disability Studies, film music, and eighteenth-century music performance practice. He is co-authoring the innovative textbook "The Musician in Society" (W. W. Norton), which organizes musical history through case studies of musician roles, and co-edited "The Oxford Handbook on Music and Disability Studies" (Oxford University Press). His scholarship appears in the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music Theory Spectrum, and other leading journals.
