Dr Blair Graham serves as a Lecturer in Urgent & Emergency Care at the University of Plymouth's School of Nursing and Midwifery (Faculty of Health), concurrently practicing as a radiology doctor. Joining the university in 2017 after completing an Academic Foundation Programme and NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Plymouth, his clinical-academic career centers on emergency medicine. He completed his PhD in 2024 developing the PREM-ED 65 patient experience measure for older adults in emergency departments.
Dr Graham's research integrates frontline clinical practice with mixed-methods expertise, focusing on patient experience, communication dynamics, major trauma mechanisms, and imaging applications in acute care. His work demonstrates particular commitment to geriatric emergency care through the PREM-ED 65 instrument development and validation process, alongside investigations into novel trauma sources like virtual reality headsets and skateboarding injuries. Current research explores imaging's role in optimizing emergency care pathways.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in patient experience measurement for older emergency department users, trauma epidemiology, and healthcare worker well-being during crises. His work consistently employs patient-public involvement methodologies while addressing practical clinical challenges in emergency settings across multiple continents.
His scientific recognition includes:
- NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship
Dr Graham actively delivers intercalated emergency/critical care medicine programs, teaching specialized modules including Clinical Decision Making, Human Factors Optimization, Qualitative Research methods, and Patient/Public Involvement frameworks. While specific grant funding and individual student supervision aren't detailed in available sources, his collaborative approach with clinical teams and patient communities drives both educational delivery and research innovation. His dual clinical-academic role facilitates direct translation of research insights into practice within emergency and radiology services.
