Janelle Yorke

Professor Janelle Yorke is an Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester’s Department of Nursing & Midwifery, with a joint appointment as Chair Professor and Head of the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her roles include Chief Nurse at The Christie Hospital and inaugural Chair in Cancer Nursing at the University of Manchester. She leads the Christie Patient Centred Research group (CPCR) and the Christie Clinical-Academic Pathway (CCAP), fostering clinician-researcher careers.

Her research focuses on patient-reported outcome/experience measures (PROM/PREM), symptom management in lung cancer, and breathlessness. She has pioneered electronic-PROM implementation in clinical care and holds leadership roles including Associate Editor of the European Journal of Oncology Nursing and Chair of the NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF).

Professor Yorke has authored over 150 publications, with recent work emphasizing PROM/PREM validation, non-pharmacological interventions, and healthcare access equity. She holds a NIHR Senior Investigator Award (2023) and is recognized for contributions to Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.

Her academic teaching includes leading post-graduate Lung Cancer modules and supervising NIHR/CRUK-funded doctoral students. Collaborations span institutions globally, including with Professors Paul Jones (St George’s University London) and Jorgen Vestbo (University of Manchester/Copenhagen).
