Bjarne Robberstad is a Professor and Head of the Section for Ethics and Health Economics at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, University of Bergen. His work focuses on health economics, cost-effectiveness of health interventions, and equity in healthcare, particularly in low-income settings across Africa and Norway.
Research Interests
- Economic evaluation of malaria chemoprevention for post-discharge management of severe anaemia in children.
- Equity impact analysis of health policies, including payment-for-performance schemes in Tanzania.
- Health technology assessments for tuberculosis diagnostics, maternal health interventions, and pandemic response strategies.
- Gender dynamics in healthcare access and stigma associated with chronic diseases like sickle cell disease.
Teaching
He has lectured on Health Economics (INTH 306) and Health Systems (INTH 316) at the Centre for International Health, UiB (2002–2010), and supervised Masters and PhD students in health economics and policy analysis.
Publications & Projects
His research includes 15+ recent articles on malaria chemoprevention, cash transfer programs, and diagnostic cost-effectiveness. He led the Malaria Chemoprevention Project (2014–2019) funded by the Research Council of Norway.
