Elisa M. Maffioli is an Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and an Assistant Professor of Global Public Health. She holds a PhD in Economics from Duke University (2018) and degrees from Bocconi University (Italy). Her research focuses on development economics, health economics, and political economy, with emphasis on global health challenges in low-income countries, including HIV, malaria, Ebola, and maternal/child health. She conducts fieldwork in Liberia, Kenya, Brazil, Myanmar, and India, funded by J-Pal, the International Growth Center, and Duke University.

Research Interests: Addressing socio-economic and behavioral determinants of health through randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental methods, and cost-effectiveness analysis. Current projects include cash transfer programs' impact, malaria treatment access, and political economy of health epidemics.
Key Contributions: Her work evaluates interventions to improve health equity, including maternal cash transfers in Myanmar, cellphone-based epidemic containment strategies, and the effects of natural resource booms on health outcomes in Brazil. Recent studies highlight sustainable food security programs and vaccine uptake strategies during pandemics.
