Björn Palmberg is an Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Mathematics Education at Umeå University. He is affiliated as a research fellow at the Umeå Mathematics Education Research Centre (UMERC), focusing on mathematics pedagogy and formative assessment practices.
His research explores formative assessment mechanisms, student motivation, mathematical problem-solving, and teacher-researcher collaboration. Key projects include developing diagnostic frameworks for reasoning difficulties, analyzing feedback practices, and investigating how psychological need satisfaction mediates educational outcomes.
Recent publications address behavioral engagement, self-regulated learning, and teacher conceptions of assessment in mathematics education. His work spans K–12 curriculum alignment, national policy impacts, and professional development programs for educators.
