Birsha Ohdedar is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental and Climate Change Law and Deputy Director at the Law, Environment, and Development Centre (LEDC) at SOAS University of London. He holds a BA/LLB from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and an LLM and PhD from SOAS. His roles include teaching specialized Masters and undergraduate environmental law modules, directing the SOAS Environmental Policy Clinic, and editing the Law, Environment, and Development (LEAD) Journal.
Research interests focus on environmental justice, the human right to water, climate law, and post-growth approaches. He critiques law's role in the political economy of environmental crises, engaging political ecology and critical geography. Regional expertise includes India. Current projects include an edited collection on Law and Post-Growth Approaches (Edward Elgar), climate adaptation law research, and a monograph on water rights in climate contexts.
Professional affiliations include trustee roles at Legal Response International and a Fellowship at Bard College’s CLASP. He advises NGOs, teaches through clinical projects, and has prior legal experience in New Zealand, India, and London, specializing in human rights, renewable energy, and climate law.
