Dr. Birgit Kynast is a researcher at the Department of Medieval History, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, specializing in early and high medieval law, gender history, and cultural principles. She contributes to the Academy project 'Burchard's Digital Decree' and is a member of the DFG-funded network 'Imitation - Mechanisms of a Cultural Principle in the Middle Ages' since 2014.

Recent publications explore penitential practices, queenship, and mantical traditions in medieval Europe. Dr. Kynast has received recognition through DAAD scholarships and collaborations with institutions like the German Historical Institute in Rome and the Main State Archives in Nuremberg.
