Birce Altıok is a Post-doctoral Researcher and General Coordinator at the Migration Research Center (MiReKoc) at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from Koç University (2021), an MA in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University (2011), and a BS in Global and International Affairs from Binghamton University (SUNY) and Boğaziçi University (2010).
Her research focuses on refugee activism, state policies, and comparative perspectives on forced migration in Turkey and Greece. She also explores foreign policy, social cohesion, and civil society dynamics. Current projects include the H2020-funded 'Key Inclusive Development Strategies for Lifelong Learning' and a TÜBİTAK project on foreign students in Turkish higher education.
Altıok has contributed to Cost Action’s International Ethnic and Immigrant Minorities Survey Data Network (2017–2021) and secured grants from TÜBİTAK, Erasmus+, and Horizon. Her work has been recognized with the 2022 APSA Best Dissertation Prize for her analysis of contentious voices in migration governance.
