Biray Kolluoğlu is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Binghamton University and is based in PSB 207. Her academic work bridges historical and cultural sociology with urban transformations in Turkey.
Research Interests: Her primary research areas include historical sociology, nationalism, social memory, and the sociospatial dynamics of urban life. She investigates how collective identities are shaped through memory, space, and cultural practices, particularly in the context of neoliberal transformation in Istanbul.
The selected publications reflect a strong trajectory in urban studies, focusing on gated communities, public housing, and the cultural politics of space. Her work often engages with interdisciplinary frameworks, combining sociology, history, and cultural studies to analyze post-Ottoman urban development and identity formation.
