He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). His expertise spans climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and resilience of small businesses to extreme weather events.
Prof. Ingirige has a BSc (Hons) from the Asian Institute of Technology, a Master's in Management of Technology, and a PhD from the University of Salford. His research focuses on climate variability impacts on livelihoods and economic sectors, with emphasis on collaborative stakeholder engagement and policy development. He leads major projects such as UKRI/GCRF-funded TRANSCEND (ES/T003219/1), investigating climate change adaptation strategies. His work includes evaluating flood resilience measures in the UK and internationally, particularly in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Key research interests include climate policy, flood adaptation frameworks, and the resilience of small businesses. He has pioneered methodologies for disaster recovery in communities affected by floods, such as the 2009 Cockermouth floods and the 2012 Braunton flood. His recent projects emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, leveraging technology (e.g., AI, remote sensing) to enhance early warning systems and post-disaster housing solutions.
Prof. Ingirige has led over 15 significant grants, including EPSRC's CREW project and EU-Horizon 2020's EU-CIRCLE initiative. His publications explore economic modeling of climate impacts, stakeholder management in disaster recovery, and innovative shelter design for sustainable post-disaster reconstruction. He actively contributes to international policy dialogues and capacity-building programs in disaster risk reduction.
His work has generated impactful outputs such as the 'Living-transforming disaster relief shelter' concept and frameworks for assessing climate financing barriers in Sri Lanka. He collaborates with global stakeholders including NGOs, governments, and private sector entities to bridge research and practical implementation gaps.
