Dr. Bin Li is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law and Justice within the College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle. His career spans over 15 years, beginning at Beihang University (China) before transitioning to Australia in 2016. He specializes in the intersection of technology, law, and justice, with dual expertise in space law and justice system innovation.
Research Focus: Bin’s work addresses two major domains: (1)
- Legal frameworks for space technologies, including military activities, debris mitigation, and international cooperation (e.g., U.S.-China collaboration, MILAMOS project).
- Impact of AI, blockchain, and digital tools on dispute resolution, court systems, and access to justice, highlighted in collaborations with Professor Tania Sourdin on projects like the Adieu AI divorce platform and smart court systems in China.
Academic Contributions: With over 30 journal articles and 2025 grants totaling $626,131, Bin has contributed to policy documents for the World Bank, United Nations, and OECD. His 2024 Erasmus+ scholarship and 2013 China Institute of Space Law award underscore his global influence.
Leadership & Teaching: He served as Program Convenor for the Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Discipline Lead for Law at Newcastle. He teaches courses like Public International Law and Civil Procedure, while mentoring PhD candidates in lunar mining governance and restorative justice. Bin also supports Chinese international law students and serves on the Academic Senate.
