Dr Bin Hu is a Lecturer in Medical Science at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition, University of Aberdeen, UK. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating cohesin complex function, which is critical for sister chromatid cohesion, DNA condensation, repair, and transcriptional regulation. He has held academic positions since 2020 and previously worked as a Research Fellow (Principle Investigator) at the University of Sheffield (2015-2020) and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Oxford (2008-2015) and King’s College London (2006-2008).
Dr Hu’s research explores the structural basis of cohesin’s role in chromosome biology and gene transcription, as well as DNA recombination during meiosis. His work has implications for understanding developmental disorders like Cornelia de Lange syndrome and Roberts syndrome. He has secured significant research grants including a BBSRC grant (£448,799) and a Wellcome Trust Seed Funding (£99,836).

Dr Hu’s laboratory investigates meiotic DNA resection regulation and homologous recombination mechanisms, using yeast as a model organism. He previously supervised studentships on CRISPR vector development and cohesin distribution analysis.
