Billy Hung

Billy Hung is an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences at Eastern Illinois University and serves as President of EIU-UPI. His research employs molecular, genetic, and physiological approaches to study extremophilic organisms in acidic environments and beneficial plant-rhizobial interactions.

His publications investigate microbial adaptations to extreme conditions (e.g., DNA protection mechanisms in acid stress), plant-microbe symbiosis, and pedagogical applications of comparative genomics. Recent work includes characterizing environmental E. coli strains and FGFR signaling in cancer. He teaches courses in Cell Biology and Microbiology, emphasizing laboratory techniques and genomic analysis.
