Billicia Hines

Billicia Hines is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Wayne State University, where she also serves as the Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives and Co-Artistic Director of the Black Theatre and Dance Collective. She is the Executive Director of Unify Productions, a theatre and media company focused on social justice.

• Education: BFA in Professional Theatre from NC Agricultural & Technical State University
• Education: MFA in Acting from the University of Missouri at Kansas City
• Certified Teacher of the Michael Chekhov Technique

Her research focuses on deconstructing the performing arts through the lens of social justice, identity exploration, and anti-racism practices. She employs theatre as a tool for personal and communal empowerment, particularly within the African Diaspora.

Her recent publications and projects, including Detroit 1967: Page to Stage and the I Am Project, highlight her commitment to using theatrical representation to interrogate historical and contemporary social issues. These works span disciplines such as cultural memory, community engagement, and pedagogy of the oppressed.
