Bill Winders

Bill Winders is a Professor in the School of History and Sociology at the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Emory University (2001), alongside an MA from Southern Illinois University (1995) and a BA from McKendree University (1993). His research focuses on political sociology, global agricultural policy, food systems, and social movements, with emphasis on the interplay between policy, economy, and inequality.

Winders authored The Politics of Food Supply (2009), which won the PEWS Book Award, and Grains (2016), analyzing geopolitics of staple crops. He co-edited Global Meat (2019), exploring the meat industry's environmental and social impacts. His work examines global food crises, commodity markets, and policy trajectories, often linking historical analysis to contemporary challenges.

His awards include the Bernstein & Byres Prize (2009) and multiple teaching accolades like the Hesburgh Fellowship (2011). Current research projects address the global meat industry and food crises in the world economy. Winders collaborates with graduate students on studies of agricultural market instability and policy dynamics.
