Bill Watson serves as Performance Professor, Acting Co-Chair, and Area Head for Acting in the Department of Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he heads the BFA acting program.
His academic credentials include:
- MFA in Acting from the University of Washington
- Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) from Northwestern University
Professor Watson specializes in acting, directing, and physical theatre methodologies including Alexander Technique, Mask Performance, and Clowning. His research focuses on therapeutic applications of Shakespearean texts for trauma intervention, particularly with military veterans, through embodied performance practices developed with international collaborators like Bob Berky and Avner Eisenberg.
He co-founded Feast of Crispian, a non-profit organization partnering with Milwaukee and Tacoma VA hospitals that produces veteran-performed Shakespeare productions and original works weaving veterans' narratives with classical texts. This initiative culminated in the 2019 First National Veterans Theatre Festival at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.
