Bill Broadhurst is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge, leading research on modular polyketide synthases (PKSs). His work focuses on understanding how these enzyme complexes control the synthesis of bioactive compounds like antibiotics and toxins through structural dynamics and substrate interactions.
Research interests include the structural rearrangements of PKS modules during catalytic cycles, the role of acyl carrier protein (ACP) domains in substrate shuttling, and engineering PKS systems to produce novel molecules. His group uses NMR spectroscopy, isothermal calorimetry, and bioinformatics to study systems like the mycolactone PKS.
Current opportunities exist for interns, undergraduate students, postgraduate researchers, and postdoctoral scientists to join his group. Contact him via rwb1002@cam.ac.uk for inquiries.
