Bilel Derbel is a faculty member at the University of Lille, serving as a Teacher, Thematic Group Facilitator for OPTIMA (Optimization: Models and Applications), Team Leader of the BONUS research team, and Member of the Scientific Council. He maintains offices at ESPRIT in Scientific City, Building M3 Extension in Science City, and Inria Building C at Euratechnologies, reflecting his active integration within the CRIStAL research laboratory ecosystem.
His research spans Optimization, Machine Learning, and High-Performance Computing with concentrated expertise in multi-objective optimization, surrogate-assisted methodologies, automatic algorithm selection, and large-scale parallel optimization. This work bridges theoretical computational intelligence with practical applications in complex problem-solving scenarios requiring advanced computational resources.
Derbel has supervised six doctoral theses between 2021-2023, including Nicolas Berveglieri (2022) on surrogate-assisted optimization, Alexandre Borges de Jesus (2022) on algorithm selection, Lorenzo Canonne (2023) on massively parallel optimization, Raphael Cosson (2023) on landscape analysis, Geoffrey Pruvost (2021) on decomposition-based methods, and David Redon on high-performance computing for computational intelligence. As leader of the BONUS team within CRIStAL, he drives collaborative research in optimization frameworks and computational methodologies.
