Dr. Bilal Makkawi is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Morgan State University's School of Business and Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Florida International University (1998), an M.A. in Accounting (with a Statistics minor) and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Florida (1986 and 1981), and a B.B.A. from the American University of Beirut (1978).
His research focuses on auditing practices, corporate governance, financial reporting standards, and behavioral aspects of accounting. Notable areas include audit committee dynamics, deferred tax classifications, fraud detection, and the impact of cognitive styles on auditor performance. He has also contributed to educational research, such as studying class preferences among African-American millennial business students.
Dr. Makkawi's work spans academic journals like Journal of Business Cases and Applications, Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, and International Journal of Business and Management. His research often bridges theoretical frameworks with applied case studies, addressing practical challenges in accounting and auditing.
