Ross Fuerman, PhD, JD is an Associate Professor of Accounting & Business Law at Suffolk University's Sawyer Business School. He holds dual professional qualifications as a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), with extensive experience as an attorney specializing in litigation and transactions, a securities regulator, and fraud auditor. His research focuses on financial disclosure-related securities fraud, auditing standards, and corporate governance challenges in global contexts.
Dr. Fuerman earned his PhD from the University of Cincinnati and JD from George Washington University. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles on topics such as auditor litigation risks, cross-border securities fraud involving Chinese companies, and the stock option backdating scandals. His teaching emphasizes auditing and fraud examination, having developed specialized courses at Suffolk.
Research highlights include analyzing the role of auditors in major corporate failures (e.g., Wells Fargo/KPMG case), comparing securities class actions to derivative lawsuits, and evaluating post-2002 auditing regulatory environments. His work frequently examines auditor accountability mechanisms and legal outcomes related to financial misreporting.
Awarded the Theta Delta Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi Faculty of the Year (2001-2002) and recipient of the SBS Summer Research Grant (2001), Dr. Fuerman currently serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Forensic & Investigative Accounting and Journal of Forensic Accounting Research.
