Bianca Murillo is a Professor in the History Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills, within the College of Arts & Humanities. She maintains an active scholarly profile with significant research contributions to the field of modern African history.
Her research focuses on global economies, decolonization, and race and gender studies, with particular emphasis on twentieth-century Ghana. Professor Murillo's work examines international business and capitalism through a comparative and transnational lens, exploring consumer cultures, debt history, and financial systems in postcolonial Africa.
Professor Murillo is the author of Market Encounters: Consumer Cultures in Twentieth-Century Ghana (2017) and is currently working on a second book titled Financing Africa's Future, which investigates debt, foreign investment, and fraud in 1960s-1970s Ghana. Her scholarly articles appear in journals such as Gender & History, Enterprise & Society, and Africa, while her public writing reaches broader audiences through venues like Africa is a Country and History Workshop.
