Leidys Murillo is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Biodiversity and Evolution research group and a Researcher at the Department of Economic History at Lund University's Faculty of Science. Her work significantly contributes to understanding insect biodiversity patterns through phylogenetic methods applied to molecular data, morphology, larvae, and host plants.
Dr. Murillo's research interests focus on evolutionary dynamics, higher-level phylogeny, and biogeography of insects, particularly Lepidoptera. Her expertise spans Geometridae systematics, moth phylogeny, and biogeographic patterns across diverse regions. She has made substantial contributions to understanding the classification and evolutionary relationships within geometrid moths.
Her research portfolio demonstrates consistent productivity across multiple high-impact journals in entomology and evolutionary biology. The publication trends reveal a strong emphasis on molecular phylogenetics and systematic approaches to understanding insect diversification, with particular attention to Australasian and Neotropical geometrid moths.
Dr. Murillo is actively involved in significant research projects including Confronting the climate – water – biodiversity interactions: How rural communities can choose to become sustainable (2023-2027), demonstrating her commitment to addressing contemporary environmental challenges through interdisciplinary research.
She recently participated in the workshop Climate Change, Water Scarcity & Biodiversity: How rural communities choose to be sustainable (April 2025), highlighting her engagement with practical applications of biodiversity research to address real-world sustainability challenges.
