Dr. Bianca Jupp is a Research Fellow and Lead Pre-clinical PET/CT Scientist in the Department of Neuroscience at Monash University, within the School of Translational Medicine. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Melbourne (2008) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (2008–2011) and the University of Cambridge, UK (2011–2019), supported by fellowships from the NHMRC, AXA Research Fund, and Newton Trust.
- Research Focus: Neural mechanisms of addiction and impulsivity, leveraging pre-clinical PET/MRI in rodent models to explore translational applications.
- Key Projects: Investigates addiction vulnerability, including the role of astrocytes, dopamine receptors, sleep disturbances, and neuroinflammation in impulsivity.
Her work bridges behavioral neuroscience and neuroimaging, with a focus on developing biomarkers for addiction and epilepsy. She is a member of the International Society for Blood Flow and Metabolism, Biological Psychiatry Australia, and the Australian Society for Molecular Imaging.
- Awards: 2022 Dept Collaborative Seed Grant and 2016 Guarantors of Brain Award.
- Grants/Projects: Includes studies on GABAergic function in epilepsy and radiotracer development for cardiac fibrosis.
Dr. Jupp supervises PhD students exploring topics like epilepsy and alcohol use disorder comorbidity. Her lab’s research emphasizes translational neuroscience to address clinical challenges in addiction and neurological disorders.
