Professor Biagio Lucini is the Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London, appointed since May 2025. He holds a PhD from Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (2000) and has held postdoctoral roles at the University of Oxford and ETH Zurich. Previously, he was a Professor at Swansea University (since 2011) and held leadership positions including Head of Mathematics (2015–2020), Director of the Swansea Academy of Advanced Computing (2015–2025), and Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research Culture (2021–2023).
His research focuses on Theoretical Particle Physics, Lattice Field Theory, Statistical Mechanics, and interdisciplinary areas like Machine Learning and Epidemiological Modelling. He has secured funding from UKRI, STFC, EPSRC, and others. Notable awards include the Marie Curie Fellowship, Royal Society University Research Fellowship, and Wolfson Merit Award.
Lucini’s work emphasizes High-Performance Computing and collaborations across academia and government bodies. He has advised on research strategy at institutional and national levels, contributing to computational infrastructure and interdisciplinary initiatives.
