Bhupie Dulay serves as an Associate Professor at City University since 2018 while concurrently teaching at Adler University, Vancouver Community College, and Justice Institute of BC. With over a decade of experience in social justice advocacy, she provides counseling, supervision, and organizational consultation through her private practice, focusing on systemic oppression resistance within communities and institutions.
Her research centers on intersectional frameworks examining how communities, families, and individuals challenge colonial and oppressive systems, with recent publications analyzing youth group work and gender identity resistance to cis/heteronormativity. Her scholarly approach integrates narrative therapy and community practice to deconstruct power dynamics in social work settings.
In teaching, Dulay prioritizes creating safer spaces for counseling students to unlearn oppressive patterns through lived experience-centered pedagogy. Her classroom philosophy actively incorporates student wisdom to develop anti-oppressive clinical practices, emphasizing that effective counseling must address systemic inequities alongside individual healing.
