Bhavna Middha is a Senior Research Fellow at RMIT University’s Centre for Urban Research in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. She holds an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) for 2024. Her work focuses on sustainable consumption, waste management, and social practice theories, addressing equity and justice in sustainability transitions. She co-leads RMIT’s 'Social Practices and Sustainable Consumption' and 'Food Cultures and Practices' Enabling Impact Networks.

Her research includes tackling single-use plastics in food systems, urban apartment waste practices, and the socio-material entanglements of waste in high-rise living. Awards include the 2024 RMIT Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research Engagement and the 2025 European Visiting Fellowship. She is a CI on the $21M ARC Industrial Transformation Hub (TREMS) and has led projects on food waste and fuel poverty.
Teaching includes courses on environmental governance and sustainability. She advises on research methods and collaborates with industry and policy stakeholders to bridge academic work with real-world impact.
