Beverly Petersen-Fitts is an Adjunct Professor of Dance at Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance. She has enjoyed a long teaching career at Kent State after initially studying dance independently at Rhode Island College, which led to an interest in Dance Therapy and culminated in an M.Ed in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University. Her notable teachers included Sydney Leonard (co-founder of Boston Ballet), Christine Hennessy, and Winthrop Corey (former Prima Ballerina of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet).
Professor Petersen-Fitts has extensive performance experience including opera dancing with the Ruffino Opera Company, annual productions of Nutcracker and ballet classics, Agnes de Mille's Rodeo, and Arthur Mitchell's Rythmetron at the Festival Ballet of Rhode Island. Brian Jones, a Rhode Island tap choreographer, inspired her love of tap dancing. She owns and operates the Cuyahoga Falls Dance Center (CFDC) in Ohio, which partners with the Moscow Ballet for productions like the Great Russian Nutcracker.
