Betül Durmuş is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Fundamental Rights of the Hertie School in Berlin, working on the project 'Deep Impact through Soft Jurisprudence? The Contribution of United Nations Treaty Body Case Law to the Development of International Human Rights Law'. She also serves as an associate editor for the UN human rights law module of Oxford Reports on International Law.
She earned her PhD in public law from Koç University in 2022 with a thesis examining the reconciliation of children’s rights with parental control rights and state interests under international human rights law. Prior to her current role, she worked as a research and teaching assistant at Koç University Law School on projects analyzing the impact of international human rights law on public international law, Turkish Constitutional Court case law, and UN treaty implementation in Turkey.
Her research specializes in UN human rights jurisprudence, comparative international human rights frameworks, children’s rights law, and Turkey’s engagement with international human rights mechanisms. She has published 22 case reports covering transitional justice, sexual violence, children’s rights, and discrimination based on ethnicity and disability through Oxford Reports on International Law.
Dr. Durmuş actively contributes to the Centre for Fundamental Rights’ mission of advancing human rights through scholarly analysis of treaty body decisions and their developmental impact on international law.
