Bettina Beinhoff is an Associate Professor of Sociolinguistics at Anglia Ruskin University and a Senior Lecturer at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge. She serves as Director of Studies in Linguistics and Chair of the School's Research Ethics Panel.
- Education: PhD and MPhil in Applied Linguistics from University of Cambridge; PGCert in Teaching at Higher Education Level.
Research Interests intersect sociolinguistics, language ideologies, and identity negotiation in intercultural communication and second language acquisition. She investigates attitudes toward accents in migrant communities and constructed languages (e.g., Quenya, Na'vi), analyzing how design intentions align with audience perceptions.
Scientific Contributions include a British Academy research grant on CEFR intelligibility mapping and co-directorship of the Anglia Ruskin Research Centre for Intercultural and Multilingual Studies and Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy. Her recent Space Policy publication on planetary communication frameworks highlights her interdisciplinary work with the Interstellar Foundation, including a 2025 moon-bound message.
