Betsy Porritt is a Lecturer in the Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences school at the University of Birmingham. Her work bridges poetry, sound studies, and interdisciplinary humanities, focusing on collective knowledge production and challenging academic traditions through creative-critical methods.

Her research explores poetry as an investigative lens, particularly using sound to critique lived and imagined spaces. She is a founding member of the Network for New York School Studies and the Centre for Urban Wellness, advocating for experimental pedagogies in multidisciplinary environments.
Porritt’s publications reveal a focus on sound poetry, queer feminist pedagogy, and urban spatial poetics. She actively mentors students across disciplines and serves as program lead for the Liberal Arts and Sciences MRes, with upcoming leadership in the BA Liberal Arts program development.
