Amanda Hodes is a Lecturer of Creative Writing at Oberlin College’s College of Arts and Sciences. Her work bridges poetry, digital media, and sound art, focusing on themes of ecology, embodiment, and sociopolitical critique. She holds an MFA from Virginia Tech and an MA in creative writing (poetry) from the University of East Anglia, alongside a BA from American University.
Research interests include contemporary poetry, digital humanities, and ecofeminism. Her award-winning debut collection Into the Into of Earth Itself (2026) explores spatial poetics and environmental advocacy. Recent presentations include her 2024 paper on 'Extractive Poetics' at the International Digital Media and Arts Association Conference.
Her multimedia projects have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Sound Scene Festival and the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, supported by institutions like the Banff Centre and the Fulbright Commission. Awards include the 2024 Philip Levine Prize for Poetry.
Hodes teaches courses such as Poetry and the Body and New Media Writing, and has curated digital literature exhibitions. She previously coedited The New River: A Journal of Digital Art & Literature, preserving its archives since 1996.
