Kimberly Campanello is a Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds' School of English, leading initiatives in creative writing and poetry research. She joined the university in 2018 to establish the BA English Literature with Creative Writing program and currently serves as the incoming Director of Poetry@Leeds. Her academic roles include teaching poetry at all levels and contributing to the Centre for Practice Research in the Arts.
Campanello holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Middlesex University, alongside advanced degrees in Women's Studies, Creative Writing, and English/French Literature. Her research focuses on innovative poetic forms, archival engagement, and translation, with current projects including a reimagined version of Dante’s Commedia.
Her creative work spans poetry collections like An Interesting Detail (2025) and debut novel Use the Words You Have (2025), exploring themes of language, identity, and embodiment. Awards include the Markievicz Award and grants from Arts Council England and Ireland. She is represented by Becky Thomas at Lewinsohn Literary.
Campanello’s publications and lectures frequently address intersections of art, politics, and health, including work responding to her Parkinson’s diagnosis. Her creative-critical approach bridges academic and public engagement through events like the Leeds Literature Festival and international poetry festivals.
