Rona Cran is an Associate Professor in Twentieth-Century American Literature at the University of Birmingham, where she has held roles since 2015. Her research focuses on New York City literature, queer writing, and modern American poetry, with a particular emphasis on the New York School, Nuyorican poetry, and HIV/AIDS activism. She co-directs the Centre for Global American Studies and the Centre for the Study of North America, and has authored influential works such as *Collage in Twentieth-Century Art, Literature, and Culture* (2014) and *I Remember Kim: a memoir of grief* (2023).
Holding a PhD from University College London, Cran has taught at institutions including UCL and Birmingham, where she received the Guild Outstanding Teaching Award (2020/21). Her interdisciplinary work bridges literary studies, digital humanities, and queer theory, with notable grants including an AHRC Research Networking Grant for the *Network for New York School Studies* and a British Academy Small Grant for the *Joe Brainard and the New York School* project.
Cran’s current research explores poetic resistance through her monograph *Multiple Voices: New York City Poetry from the Mimeograph Revolution to the HIV/AIDS Pandemic*, and she co-edits *Conversations with New York School Poets* (2025). She contributes to platforms like the *TLS* and curates events on topics such as queer New York and the FBI’s surveillance of poets. Her work emphasizes marginalized voices and the transformative power of literature in social justice contexts.
