Dr Bethany Taylor is a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield's School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery, specializing in qualitative and mixed methods research focused on patient experience, nursing workforce development, and mesothelioma care. She actively contributes to the strategic research alliance between the Royal College of Nursing and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2013-2017) examining transitions to independent living for adults with learning disabilities. Methodologically, she employs creative participatory approaches with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to improve relationship-centred care provision.
Current research projects include the Military Mesothelioma Experience Study (MIMES), investigations into fuel poverty for people with learning disabilities, and mapping financial support systems for caregivers of those with life-limiting illnesses. Her recent publications (2022-2024) consistently address mesothelioma patient experiences, nursing workforce well-being, and disability transitions through qualitative and mixed methods frameworks.

Dr Taylor supervises doctoral student Virginia Sherbourne and has secured significant funding from Mesothelioma UK, NIHR, and the EAGA Charitable Trust for projects including understanding military mesothelioma impacts and improving diagnosis communication. She is integral to the Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group and Mesothelioma UK Research Centre collaborations.
Her work bridges clinical practice and academic research, particularly in developing interventions for vulnerable populations and enhancing nursing workforce resilience through the Royal College of Nursing partnership.
