معرفی
Bethany Foster, MD, MSCE is a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University. She is affiliated with the Child Health and Human Development Program and the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at RI-MUHC, and works within the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Nephrology at the McGill University Health Centre.
Dr. Foster is a clinical epidemiologist whose primary research focuses on the long-term outcomes of children and young adults with kidney transplants. Funded by CIHR and NIH, she has conducted significant research on immunosuppressive medication adherence and graft outcomes in adolescent and young adult kidney transplant recipients, demonstrating their particularly high risk of graft loss. Her work also investigates differences in solid organ transplant outcomes by recipient and donor sex, seeking to understand the mechanisms behind these disparities.
Her research spans medication adherence, transplantation outcomes, sex and gender differences in transplant outcomes, and long-term health outcomes for adolescents and young adults with kidney transplants. Recent publications show an expansion into HIV prevention services, community health worker integration, blood pressure management programs in urban settings, and data harmonization tools for transplantation research. She has contributed significantly to the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) clinical practice guidelines.
- Co-author of KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline on Evaluation and Management of Candidates for Kidney Transplantation (2020)
- Principal investigator of the Teen Adherence in Kidney Transplant Effectiveness of Intervention Trial (TAKE-IT)
- Research on sex differences in transplant outcomes across multiple organ systems
Dr. Foster leads research initiatives examining medication adherence interventions for transplant recipients, with implications for improving transplant outcomes through better adherence strategies tailored to adolescent and young adult populations. Her work bridges clinical care and population health research through her affiliations with RI-MUHC and McGill University.
