Bethan Treadgold is a Chartered Psychologist and Research Fellow working in the Department of Health and Community Sciences at the University of Exeter Medical School. She is a staff member of the Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care (APEx) and the Health Professions Education & Wellbeing Research Group. Bethan joined the University of Exeter in 2021 while completing her PhD at the University of Southampton, which she finished in 2022.
Her educational background includes:

- MSc in Health Psychology (2017) from University of Southampton
- BSc in Psychology (2016) from University of Southampton
Bethan is a qualitative methodologist with interdisciplinary research expertise focused on patients', carers' and primary healthcare professionals' use of and access to digital health services for self-managing long-term conditions. Her research explores how individuals use peer online support forums to gain advice and support around self-managing health, as well as how healthcare professionals can support patients in accessing trustworthy online advice. She is passionate about promoting safe and beneficial use of peer online support forums alongside traditional healthcare. In 2023, she secured £148,000 in funding from the NIHR School for Primary Care Research to lead a project investigating the acceptability of and procedures for primary healthcare professionals quality-approving peer-generated health information. She has also investigated experiences with remote consultation services in primary care and how professionals support disadvantaged groups in accessing these services.
Bethan has also contributed to research on NHS staff wellbeing through the NIHR Workforce Wellbeing Partnership: CARES-WELL, focusing on identifying ways to monitor workplace environments and measure staff wellbeing to drive meaningful change in healthcare organizations. Previously, she investigated the assessment process for The National Clinical Excellence Awards in England and Wales.

Bethan is certified as a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (2022) and became an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society in July 2025. She offers research supervision for postgraduate students and welcomes opportunities for peer review, editorial work, external examining, partnership working, and consultancy.
