Beth Nugent is an Associate Professor of Writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), serving since 1998. She holds a BA from Connecticut College (1978) and an MFA from the University of Iowa (1982). Her creative works include the books Live Girls and City of Boys, and her writing appears in prominent publications such as the Norton Anthology of Contemporary Short Fiction, Black Warrior Review, The New Yorker, and North American Review. She has received prestigious awards including an NEA Grant and recognition from the Colorado and Illinois Arts Councils.
Prof. Nugent teaches advanced creative writing courses, including Workshop: Process/Project Writing (WRIT 5001), which focuses on developing interdisciplinary projects that integrate writing with media, performance, or visual arts. Her courses emphasize process-oriented exploration rather than traditional critique. She also oversees graduate projects for MFA students through Graduate Projects: Writing (WRIT 6009), offering private mentorship for their creative work.
