Dr. Beth Catlett is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research at Macquarie University. As a biochemist with expertise in healthcare innovation, she focuses on understanding and removing barriers to healthcare among marginalized and vulnerable populations through novel diagnostic approaches.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Medicine from UNSW Sydney (awarded October 20, 2022) with research focused on diagnostic strategies to enhance hepatitis C virus infection testing, and a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Greenwich (awarded June 24, 2008).
Dr. Catlett's research interests center on hepatitis C testing methodologies, dried blood spot technology, point-of-care diagnostic systems, and healthcare access disparities. Her work builds on experience gained at the Kirby Institute (Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program) and St Vincent's Hospital (Centre for Applied Medical Research), where she developed specialized expertise in innovative sample collection and testing techniques. She has extensive experience in quantitative research and project management within government, industry, and health organizations across the UK and Australia.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on implementation science in diagnostic testing, particularly examining dried blood spot testing for hepatitis C and HIV through the NSW DBS Pilot study. She has also expanded her research to include patient-centered approaches through the Listen to Me project, developing patient-reported experience measures for people with intellectual disability.
- Significant contribution: Systematic review on hepatitis C diagnostic accuracy (32 Scopus citations)
- Research fingerprint shows strong concentration in Hepacivirus (100%), RNA (46%), and Hepatitis C (45%)
- Active collaboration across multiple institutions including UNSW, Kirby Institute, and St Vincent's Hospital
Dr. Catlett regularly presents her work at academic conferences, with recent presentations focusing on consumer engagement in research governance and co-designing healthcare solutions for vulnerable populations. Her research demonstrates a consistent commitment to translating scientific innovation into practical healthcare solutions that address systemic barriers to care.
