Beryl Graham is an Emeritus Professor of New Media Art at the University of Sunderland, where she previously led the MA Curating programme and supervised numerous PhD students. She co-founded CRUMB, a key resource for curators of new media art, and curated the international exhibition Serious Games. Her research focuses on curatorial practices for new media art, audience interaction, and digital art collection strategies. Graham has held visiting roles at institutions worldwide, including Peking University, University of Lisbon, and the Banff Centre for the Arts.
Her academic contributions include books like Rethinking Curating: Art After New Media (MIT Press) and New Collecting: Exhibiting and Audiences (Ashgate). She has raised over £1 million in AHRC grants and supervised over 20 PhD students in curatorial and new media art studies. Graham remains active in professional bodies like the AHRC Peer Review College and serves on international advisory boards for institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and Tate Modern.
Her work bridges art practice, theory, and institutional challenges, emphasizing participatory systems and the evolving role of museums in digital culture.
