Prof Bernie Carter is a Professor at Edge Hill University, leading the Children, Young People and Families Research theme. Previously, she held roles as Director of the Children’s Nursing Research Unit at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (2008-2021) and Professor of Children's Nursing at the University of Central Lancashire (2000-2016). She also serves as Adjunct Professor at Auckland University of Technology (2018–present) and Clinical Professor at the University of Tasmania (2011–present).

Research Interests:
Her research focuses on improving healthcare for children with chronic conditions, pain, disability, and complex needs. Key areas include pediatric early warning systems, child-centered care, and innovative dissemination methods (e.g., dance, animation). Recent projects address remote consultations, somatic practice for chronic pain, and sleep in children with epilepsy.
