Bernice McFadden is an Assistant Professor of English at Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts, specializing in historical and social justice-themed literature. She holds an MFA from St. Joseph’s University New York and additional education from Fordham University. Her critically acclaimed novels, such as The Book of Harlan and Praise Song for the Butterflies, explore African American experiences across historical and contemporary contexts. McFadden’s work frequently addresses themes of racial inequality, cultural memory, and survivorship, earning her multiple prestigious awards including the American Book Award and NAACP Image Award. She is also a sought-after educator committed to reshaping students' understanding of marginalized histories.
