Dr Bernhard Forchtner is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research in the School of Arts, Media and Communication at the University of Leicester. His research focuses on far-right discourses, social memory construction, environmental communication, and critical qualitative methods. He has taught courses in critical discourse analysis, media studies, sociological theory, and environmental sociology.
His work examines how far-right movements employ environmental narratives, climate change rhetoric, and cultural imaginaries to construct exclusionary identities. Notable research themes include ethno-ecological degrowth, visual melodrama in far-right communication, and the intersection of nationalism with environmentalism. He has contributed to interdisciplinary debates on collective learning processes and the role of storytelling in political mobilization.
